Arriba Career and Technical Training Program recruits, trains and places the Limited English Proficiency (LEP) worker in vocations suitable for immediate placement into entry level positions in senior care facilities in Westmoreland County and Western Pennsylvania. We coordinate English proficiency (ESL) classes for our candidates, adding a vocational ESL module, offer bi-lingual nursing assistant classes (the Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program “NATCEP”), develop bi-lingual training and career coaching. In addition to offering nursing assistant training, we also recruit, train and place candidates for other entry level senior care positions including personal care aide, dietary aide, housekeeping, laundry and maintenance.

Pennsylvania Senior Care Industry

Long term care is the eighth largest industry in Pennsylvania, employing almost 200,000 people and indirectly supporting almost 300,000 jobs ( American Health Care Association, "Economic Impact on Long Term Care Facilities in Pennsylvania," January 2011). The Senior Care industry in general, and skilled nursing and assisted living facilities in particular, rely on nursing assistants to provide the bulk of daily care needs of their residents. Home health companies also rely on nursing assistants to provide nursing care for home bound patients they serve.

Long-Term Benefits Bilingual Vocational Training

Investing in the education and training of the LEP workforce would return significant benefits, including increasing the LEP consumer force, increasing competitiveness for ethnic customers within the nursing home industry and reducing the costs of retaining workers by hiring loyal LEP workers. As a result, Arriba Career and Technical Training seeks to strategically invest in solutions for a more representative and diverse workforce. In this way, Pennsylvania skilled nursing facilities will be better suited to address the growing need for a bi-lingual and ESL workforce.
